Okay so it’s been an eternity since I last updated! Sorry, I have just been really really busy! I have midterms next week and I’ve been in crazy-hobbit-study mode. This is where I isolate myself (lock myself in my room), put on techno (or Arabic) music, and study for hours and hours leaving only to grab food or take a very abbreviated 休息 (break). I feel really anti-social when I get in this mode, but you gotta do what you gotta do when it’s exam time. Anyway, I have done so much stuff since Xian. These are my most recent adventures.
Xian Part 2
Authors Note: I am updating this blog after several crazy, adventurous days! Let me go ahead and say this now: I LOVE XIAN! I had a great time and had tons of fun! But, due to national day and the ridiculous number of people everywhere, I will most likely sound pessimistic and complainey. I am the type of person who enjoys personal space and alone time. So far this week I have been severely deprived of both. I have thoroughly enjoyed myself so far, but I will rant a bit about the crowds and public transportation while I tell you about my awesomely fun adventures. Continue reading
Daily life in Chengdu Part 3/ Xian Part 1
A lot has happened in the last week! My Chinese friends, Jessica Yoyo and Louis, took my Asialearn group to a famous place in Chengdu called Jingli street. It is a street full of shops and old historical buildings. We went to 北大门 (North Gate) and caught a few taxis to get to Jingli. The first thing I saw when I got there was a massive archway and red lanterns everywhere (it was night time). My friends and I proceeded to enter the crowded street and browse through all the shops. There were many calligraphy shops and venders that sold beautiful paintings and really cool calligraphy brushes. There were some brushes the size of a little kids T-ball bat. It was crazy! There were other shops filled with trinkets and Chinese ornaments (I wanted to buy them all but they were 太贵了 (too expensive). We explored around Jingli street for a few hours and then went back to Sichuan University (川大 “chuan da”- for short). Continue reading
Good News :)
Soooooo…………..
Today I learned that I would be able to stay in China for a full school year!!!!! I thought maybe I would only be able to stay for one semester but now I know for sure that I will be able to stay here for a year!!!!! 我非常好! (wo feichang hao! I am very happy!!!!) So, I will be coming home sometime in early December and go back for second semester in mid to late February!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
